Purpose
This Control sets the requirements which govern Enterprise Data Center temperature & humidity controls.
Scope
This Control applies to Temperature & Humidity controls for all University Enterprise Data Centers. The University Data Centers will maintain and monitor safe operating temperature and humidity levels.
The process offers the following Enterprise Data Centers NIST level unless otherwise specified below:
- 1155 – Moderate
- Hinds – High
- POD-A – Moderate
- POD-B - Moderate
- POD-C - Moderate
Policy
- All Data Centers will adhere to state and local fire codes.
- Temperature and Humidity levels will be maintained at levels within the tolerances of the computing equipment hosted in the spaces.
- Space temperature & humidity levels will be monitored, logged, and trended.
- Alarms will be sent automatically via email and text when temperatures and humidity levels out of tolerance.
Process
- 1155
- Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) will operate automatically providing adequate cooling.
- IT Service Staff will check the room temperature twice a shift confirming is within operating temperatures.
- Where implemented, cabinet level temperature and humidity sensors will monitor and trended.
- Cabinet monitoring system will alarm when levels are out of tolerance.
- Hinds, POD-A, POD-B, and POD-C
- The Hinds, Building Automation System (BAS) will control all cooling and humidity levels.
- Where implemented cabinet level temperature and humidity sensors will monitor and trended.
- Cabinet monitoring system will alarm when levels are out of tolerance.
- Alarms will be automatically dispatched when temperatures or humidity levels are out of tolerance.
