Okta can be more than just your single sign-on authentication (i.e., identity verification) tool. By installing the Okta plug-in on your web browser, Okta can save your credentials for new websites that you visit. The next time you visit these sites, your credentials will be automatically filled in, allowing you to authenticate quickly and easily without having to remember your password.
- Install the Okta plug-in by going to uchicago.okta.com. At the top of the page, you’ll see the option to install the plug-in. Select the Install button.

- After authenticating, you’ll be taken to the Okta Browser Extension page in your browser’s web store, where you will be able to add the Okta Browser Extension to your browser. For example, if you are using Chrome,

- You’ll see a warning, notifying you of what the browser extension can do. Choose Add extension.

- Once you have added the Okta Browser Plugin, your Okta browser extension will ask if you would like to save the login information when you navigate to a website that requires authentication. When you save the login, the site will become available on the Okta dashboard.
When you access a website that is saved in Okta, your login credentials will automatically be filled in, allowing you to log in easily. You can also go to the Okta dashboard to access all your saved sites.
Note: Passwords saved in Okta are not accessible to anyone except you—IT Services is not able to help you retrieve passwords that are saved in Okta. Additionally, when you leave the University, your Okta dashboard will close when your account closes, and you will not be able to retain access to your stored passwords.
