Move Your Desk Phone to a New Location

When you're needing to change office locations, moving your Cisco phone to a new location where it can be plugged into an active data jack on campus is possible to do on your own. After moving the phone, it's critical that you contact IT Services so they can update 911 records (a mandatory government requirement).

Follow the steps below to set up your phone in a new location.

  1. Plug the first network cable from the active data jack into port 1 (indicated by the network icon above the port) on the back of the phone. The phone should be plugged directly into the data jack.
  2. When the phone is plugged in, the display turns on and begins a start-up cycle, lasting a few minutes.
  3. Plug the second network cable from your computer into port 2 (indicated by the computer icon above the port) on the back of the phone.

Port Purposes

Port 1: Power Over Ethernet (PoE) port - A port for the network cable from the wall

Port 2: Access port - A port for the network cable to a computer

Port 3: Auxiliary port - A port to connect to some models of headsets

Port 4: Analog Headset Connection port: A port to connect to the majority of headsets

Port 5: DC / Power port: A port used to connect to a power cable (not needed in most areas of campus).
